This grass roots movement began with a simple idea: To give back and support those who have given whatever it took. In 2014, a group of local firefighters engaged in a grueling kayaking trip, paddling the Neuse River, starting in North Raleigh at Falls Lake, to New Bern, a total of 193 miles over 4 days. They asked for a minimum sponsorship of just a penny per mile, totaling $1.93.

The money raised in the first paddle was primarily split between Firefighters Assisting Armed Forces Families (FFAAFF) and My US VeteranCorp (MYUSVC). In addition, a portion of the donations was used to assist at least two families of veterans.

So many members of our first responder family and our military service brothers and sisters have done whatever it took. Many are not with us anymore but in remembrance of them we take on this quest. We honor them by paddling & raising money  - hoping we all go to work never needing the assistance.
